What A Day!

What a way to start a Bank Holiday, the London to Paris LEC Team set off from Sidcup, the Kids Club and Fit Camp riders took part in the Jubilee Ride to Blackheath.

8.30am and Sidcup Place car park is damp, chilly and full of cyclists, some setting off for Paris, some coming to wish them bon voyage. Nerves, excitement and high spirits a plenty, all champing at the bit to get going.

9.00am and off they roll for a very eventful day. 85 miles, 3 punctures, 1 lost rider and a small road traffic incident later, and they all arrived safely at Dover in time for the ferry. More to come on that from the team themselves!

10.00am and the Fit Camp riders meet at Eltham Park South Cafe for a quick tea and then on down to Samuel Montagu to pick up the Kids Club and parents for the Jubilee Ride; red, white and blue clothes, bunting, flags and face paintings a plenty. Our 3 young Kids Club riders doing their first ever 'grown up' club ride on the road and they didn't let the side down, they rode brilliantly and were impeccably behaved. Charlie (8), having rode up from Bexley with his mum, accumulated 15 miles and survived upright in an incident with a rogue BMXer, who dogged us for a huge part of our ride back. Matt (13), our newest Kids Club member and newest rider, doing his longest ever ride on a bike. And Laura (10), with her huge smile and support for the others throughout.

Big thanks to Jason Z, Martin S, Ali, Karen and Neil for supporting. And welcome to Andy, joining us for the first time today for a not so usual ride.

It's days like this that make me so proud of the club we are!

Keep up the good riding and team work guys and girls.
